Day 3 (Part 2) Queenstown
Queenstown at Sunrise...
More pretty pictures from our journey (I didnt' realize I didn't even get through the entire 8-9 hour bus ride pics in the last entry)! This includes a stop at Mirror Lake, vineyard pics and turquoise rivers (that color because of the glacial melt from the glaciers in the area). Finally, we arrived in Queenstown- known as the adventure capital of the world! Not at first seeking adventure, but just dinner, the first thing Karen and I did was find a great grassy spot with a few chairs at the hotel overlooking Queenstown Bay on Lake Wakatipu. This was another spectacular and memorable moment for us- tired from a lengthy bus ride, but then deposited on the shore of this beautiful lake, with the sun shining on us. We enjoyed a dinner of crackers, local fruit of cherries and kiwi berries (which we'd never heard of or seen before- a miniature fruit, about the size of a grape, but with the furry skin and taste of a kiwi), farmers cheese and wine from the bar. Does life get any better than this? ;)
Well, to answer that question, we had to check out our adventure options in New Zealand. In Queenstown, one can do anything from sky diving to a canyon swing, to a multitude of adventurous crazy stunts never heard of before. At this point in the trip, I was still recovering from my food poisoning a few days before and a couple of poor night's sleep. I can honestly say I wasn't up to much "adventure" and so while Karen decided to go paragliding (and literally jumped off a cliff!!) I wasted my one night in the "adventure capital of the world" relaxing with a massage. :) See more pics under Queenstown at my photo website. Click here for the next post in this journey :)
